Dear Editor,
The multi-million pound investment which has been secured for Midsomer Norton Primary, as reported on the front page of last week’s Journal, is great news for all parents and children in our area, and of course for those of us who can proudly call ourselves grandparents.
This investment marks another step in the improvements our area is currently seeing. Midsomer Norton and the surrounding area is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance at the moment, and the investment B&NES Conservatives are putting into the town will undoubtedly be helping to bolster the area through the current recession.
After many years of the Norton-Radstock area losing out to Bath when the Lib Dems were the largest party on B&NES Council, the past couple of years have witnessed a large number of improvements started in our area, which local Conservatives are very proud of securing.
In addition to the £1.9m secured for Midsomer Norton Primary, we have seen the completion of the excellent new Fosseway Special School and will soon see the completion of the new Writhlington Secondary School. Alongside these new education facilities, long-awaited investment is going into play facilities for young people in the town, with plans progressing well for the £800k adventure play ground and skate park at Gullock Tyning.
In addition to this investment into youth services, the new Greenacres Community Resource Centre is now open with first-class modern care facilities that are improving the quality of life for residents and those who use the day facilities.
Local Conservatives have fought hard over many years for this level of investment in our town, so it extremely positive that local residents are now witnessing these improvements. Our local manifesto commitment to same-day waste and recycling collections has also now been implemented to improve waste services for residents, and extra resources have also recently been announced for street cleaning teams in the area.
There is still much which the Council can improve on, but these steps are extremely welcome for Midsomer Norton and the area as a whole, and local Conservatives will keep pressing for continued investment into our town.
Yours faithfully,
Cllr John Whittock,
Cons, Midsomer Norton Redfield
