It has recently been announced that, from the 8 th of June, most households in B&NES will have their refuse and recycling all collected on the same day. This news has been welcomed by people I've spoken with as making life easier for local residents. Not only will it make the weekly waste collection more convenient, but it will also help to boost our recycling rates even further. Households will soon be receiving information on their new weekly collection timetable.
This improvement to waste collection was a key pledge by local Conservatives at the last local elections and so I'm extremely pleased it is being delivered this year. Conservatives in B&NES have previously fought to keep collections in our area weekly and have rejected plans by the Government to introduce pay-as-you-throw 'bin taxes'. Improving recycling rates and helping our environment is extremely important and that's why we believe residents should be helped and encouraged to recycle, not penalised. Same-day collections are an important step forward in this drive.
These types of improvements to the front-line services residents receive from their council must be a top priority and local Conservatives will continue working to deliver on this.
