Major road maintenance investment welcomed
21/01/2010Major investment planned by the Conservatives to improve highways throughout Bath and North East has been welcomed by local councillors. The Conservative administration on B&NES Council has announced plans to almost double the highways maintenance budget to £6.5 million this year as part of Conservative budget proposals, to be debated by the Council on the 16th February.
Councillor Tim Warren (Cons, Mendip) said:
“This investment by the Conservatives into improving our area’s roads is extremely good news. I know local residents will give it a warm welcome. Pot-holes and poor road surfaces are a long-standing problem, which have been exacerbated by the recent bad weather. Given the national problems experienced after the extreme cold weather, it would be good to see the Government step in with some additional help. However, given the absence of this support, it’s welcome that the Council will be putting in significant extra resources which should result in real improvements to our roads.”
